Price a job for the margin you want

Labor and materials in, the price out. Margin is the share of the price you keep; most trades aim for 30 to 50%.

Charge

$1,585

  • Your cost$1,030

  • That is a markup of54%
  • A 30% deposit would be$475

Price = your cost ÷ (1 − margin). An estimate from your numbers, not advice.

In Jetsy you type your rates once in the Price book, and every quote is priced this way, with your before photos on it and a deposit the customer pays by card. Try it free for 30 days →

What an hour of your work really costs

The truck, insurance, phone and software, your own pay and your crew, spread over the hours you can actually bill. Most crews bill 70 to 80% of the hours they work: the rest is driving, estimates and supplies.

How much paint a room takes

From a painter who has priced rooms for 14 years: walls, doors and windows out, two coats, about 350 square feet a gallon.

Paint to buy

3gallons

  • Area to paint365 sq ft
  • Labor, one painter4.9 hours
  • That is about0.6 8-hour days

A door counts as 21 sq ft and a window as 15. Rounded up to whole gallons; add more for a big color change or a rough surface.

Put those hours and gallons into tool 1 to price the room (paint at about $45 a gallon; change it there). Send them to Price a job ↑
